English challenge - Tuesday 5th May

English Challenge - Tuesday 5th May

Today you are going to revise what adverbials are and practise using them.

We need to revisit these regularly as they are one of the key objectives for year 4.

First read through the explanation below to remind you about adverbials.

Now copy out the following sentences.
Underline the verb in each sentence and highlight the adverbial.
Write what question the adverbial answers - When, Where or How.
The first has been done for you.

Some sentences may have more than one adverbial!

1. Little Mouse shivered near the cobwebs. WHERE

2. At night, he peered under the bed.

3. With great care, he avoided sharp knives around the house.

4. Little Mouse hid in the cupboard.

5. When he was out shopping, Little Mouse avoided knife shops.

6. Cautiously, he turned the taps on.

7. Clutching a map, Little Mouse went to the park.

8. When he heard the loud noise, Little Mouse shot across the room like a rocket.

9. Little Mouse switched his night light on straight after tea.

10. Using his binoculars, he checked for birds before heading into the garden.

Now can you write five sentences of your own that contain adverbials.

Remember to change where the adverbial is in the sentence.
