Englsh Challenge - Friday 3rd April

Hi year 4,

To finish our week learning about punctuation I thought we'd look at how commas and brackets can be used to insert extra information into sentences.

Here's our example sentence:

Tim, who was nine years old, was one of the youngest members of his year five class.

We could also do the same thing with brackets.

Tim (who was nine years old) was one of the youngest members of his year five class.

Now you have a go at writing some similar sentences using commas and brackets. Copy and complete them in your challenge books.

1. The car, _____________________, sped off down the road.

2. Beautiful flowers ( ________________ ) were arranged in the vase.

3. Thomas, who loved riding his bike, _________________________ .

4. Flocks of seagulls ( ______________________ ) swooped down on to the beach.

Now have a go at writing two sentences of your own, similar to these, which use commas or brackets. Use these pictures for inspiration.
