Maths Challenge - Thursday 2nd April (Statistics)

Warm - Up: Adding 9

A quick tip for adding 9 quickly is to add 10 and subtract 1. For example 34 + 9 = add 10 = 44 - 1 = 43.

Use this strategy for the following addition calculations:

25 + 9
42 + 9
17 + 9
37 + 9
54 + 9
212 + 9
315 + 9
453 + 9
564 + 9
34 +19
55 + 29

Main Activity - Line Graphs

Line graphs are a good type of graph to show how something changes over time. Look at this line graph and answer the questions in your challenge book.

How many degrees difference was there between the highest and lowest temperatures?

What happens to the temperature as we move through the morning towards lunch time?

Now look at this line graph showing how a plant grows over a period of time and answer the questions.

Good luck and remember to look closely at the axis of the graphs.
